The No Makeup, Makeup Look

We love the transformative nature of makeup, and its ability to make women look and feel great about themselves. But sometimes less is more. Even when it’s not. The no makeup-makeup look may look like no makeup is involved, but it really requires a bit makeup and some effort to get that effortless look.  But no matter what skin tone or skin type – this look is great for everyone! The best part is, you don’t need a makeup artist or a beauty guru to achieve this look! With a few tools and some pro techniques, you can enhance your natural features to look naturally fresh faced. We’ve broken it down into 4 easy steps: skincare, brow styling, eye definition, and yes, makeup, to make it easy to get that “I woke up looking like this” look.

The Look

Let's get started!

1. Skincare

First things first, you need a strong base. Having a good skincare regimen will work wonders on the outcome of this look. A strong routine will keep your skin healthy and glowing.  Our Complexion Perfection Dermaplaners are great for prepping the skin. They exfoliate to help stimulate the production of collagen and increase your skin’s ability to absorb skincare products. It also removes facial hair and dead skin, leaving you with improved skin texture for smoother makeup application. Gently sweep the blade across the surface of your skin and apply your serums or moisturizer after. Next, say good-by to puffy skin and eyebags. The Complexion Perfection Ice Roller massages and cools the skin to reduce puffiness and increase blood circulation, which gives a brightened appearance. Just chill in the freezer for about 20 minutes, then gently roll around the eyes to soothe and reduce puffiness and over the entire face to calm and brighten.

2. Brow Styling

To stay true to the natural look, a little brow grooming is all you need. Embrace your natural brows – bushy or thin works great with this look. What’s important is that they are groomed vs unruly. Start by using the Brow and Lash Shaper to comb through your eyebrow hair and trim any hair that is excessively long. The spoolie is a great feature that combs every brow hair to easily see where trimming is needed.  If you have thin brows, you may not need trimming. You might also want to skip the plucking. Just remove any hairs in the center of your brows or a few low under the arch to shape. For those with bushy brows, you will definitely need to trim and pluck – but be careful not to overpluck – your mantra should be less is more. Step back between every pluck to see the effect.  Your goal is to create separation between brows and to lightly shape and define the arch. The Luxe Slant Tweezer has hand sharpened tips that precisely grip hair for easy brow grooming. Finally, follow up with a gel or wax to hold the brows in place, or give your arches a little more definition with a tinted brow gel. Finish by brushing your brows outward in their natural shape with the brush from the Brow and Lash Shaper.

3. Eye Definition

Even with a no makeup-makeup look, you still want your eyes to look fresh and awake! Mascara is the magic to achieving this look, and with some assistance from our beauty tools you can create an even more eye-opening effect. Start by curling your lashes. Our Pro Performance Eyelash Curler has a soft arch and ergonomic handle to reach a variety of eye shapes. Gently move the curler close to the lash line and squeeze for 5 seconds. Then move the middle of the lashes and squeeze again.  Next put on your favorite mascara and run the Velvet Touch Eyelash Separator through them to remove clumps.

4. Makeup

It’s the rare individual that has absolutely flawless skin. Most of us need a little help to hide pores, dark under-eye circles or blemishes. But with a great concealer, hydrating foundation and quality makeup tools, just about anyone can look fresh and glowing. For a dewy finish, apply hydrating foundation with a beauty sponge from the Beauty Sponge Set. The rounded edges make application effortless. Wet the sponge until it expands, squeeze out excess water, then add a bit of foundation to the sponge. Use dabbing and rolling motions to blend into your skin. Next apply concealer with the mini sponge where you want a little extra coverage, like under your eyes, around your nose or over blemishes. Always apply concealer over foundation to get the most impact. For a that rosy, glowing effect, apply a very light layer of soft blush in the same undertone of your skin. The fluff concealer is a great multi-tasking brush that we love to use when applying blush for this look. The fluffy domed tip allows for the perfect diffusion of color.
