Nail Shaping:

An almond shaped nail looks feminine and helps an ombre design look sleek. Use the clipper to trim each nail to an oval shape. Trim sides first and then the center to minimize pressure on the nail which can cause cracking. Then use the file to smooth the free edge. File in one direction to avoid causing any damage.

Cuticle Care:

Cuticle care is probably the most important step. A cuticle that is clean and free of skin helps prevent polish from peeling or lifting from the base of the nail. Take care to avoid cutting living skin during this step. The Japonesque nipper in the Essential Mani/Pedi kit has hand sharpened blades for clean precise cuticle removal. Finally use rubbing alcohol to dehydrate the nail right before applying polish.

Apply Color:

Apply a base coat. Then polish nails a solid grey color and let dry. Next, use tape to border the nail so the skin is protected. Apply a thin stripe of nail polish onto a makeup sponge in this color order; grey, pink, dark pink, grey. Dab color onto each nail to create the ombre effect. Repeat the process for a 2nd coat and apply topcoat. Remove the tape and use a brush to clean away any excess polish on the skin.

Nail art has never been hotter but creating intricate looks with polish takes a steady hand and a lot of patience. Fortunately, there’s an easier way with nail decals. This innovative approach to an at-home manicure makes everyone their own best nail artist. Just like polish, the key to longevity with nail decals is a clean nail bed. Japonesque’s precision nail tools can help make sure your nails are meticulously manicured to help your nail decals lasts up to 2 weeks.

Step 1: Create a Clean Base

When applying an at-home manicure, do as the pros do and spend the most of your time on nail prep. Our Essential Manicure Kit and Velvet Touch Manicure Nipper are all you need for this important step. Use the nail clipper in the Essential Manicure Kit to clip nails to desired length and shape. Then push your cuticles back with the nail stick. With the Pro Performance Cuticle Nipper, carefully trim away excess cuticle, or hangnails. Use alcohol or nail polish remover to remove all the natural oil on your nails and help make sure your nails are completely free of moisture and dust.

Step 2: Apply Nail Decals

Once you have a clean base, select the size of the decal. Choose a size slightly smaller than your natural nail bed. Pick up the decal with a tweezer and gently lay it down on your nail. Try not to touch the adhesive side or stretch when applying. Apply the decal from the cuticle line and press down firmly until all the edges lay flat, leaving a tiny gap between the decal and cuticle. Start from the center of the cuticle line and smooth out the surface to ensure there are no wrinkles. Practice makes perfect!

Step 3: File to Remove Excess

Once the decal is set or dry, fold the excess material over the nail tip and file off the excess. The Essential 4-Way Nail Buffer is an ideal option for this step. File in a downward motion, perpendicular to your nail bed. Make sure not to file upward or side to side. Filing in other directions can cause dust and grit to get under the decal, preventing it from adhering properly. Once each nail has been filed down, gently pull the excess to remove.

Step 4: Smooth and Polish

The final step is to clean and polish nails. Using the Essential 4 Way Nail Buffer, smooth and file any rough edges to prevent the strip from lifting. Make sure the free edge of your nail is visible. If you notice lifting on either side, use the nail clippers in the Essential Manicure Kit to trim off the edges. Avoid washing your hands in super-hot water or applying oil-based products that might cause lifting. A little extra effort will keep your spring nails looking fresh and polished!

Galentine’s day is February 13th and it’s all about celebrating the women in your life – single or not. And while it is not yet a national holiday, it’s still a great excuse to get with your girls, sip wine and do your nails. To further inspire you, we’ve created this look that is seriously easy to create at home. All you need is your favorite polish and a few Japonesque nail tools. Not yet ready to connect in person? Use zoom – pick a time and make it happen!

Let's get started!

JAPONESQUE® Pro Performance Nail Tools Group

Step 1: Clip & Remove Cuticles: To get a great manicure at home, prep is key. Do as the pros do and spend more time prepping your nails than you do polishing them. This will give your manicure longevity. Use the Pro Performance Nail Clipper to clip nails to desired length and shape. Next, add a drop of cuticle remover to each nail base and use the Velvet Touch Nail Tool to push back cuticles. Trim away any uneven cuticles with the Velvet Touch Manicure Nipper.

Step 2: File & Buff: File nails gently with an Essential Emery Board to smooth and shape the free edge of the nail. Move in one direction. If you have thin nails, try holding the emery board flush to your nail and tilt it slightly towards you. File just underneath the nail, which will help protect against over-filing. Next, buff the top of each nail lightly with the Essential 4-Way Nail Buffer to create a smooth surface. Buffing will help get rid of ridges and ensure even nail polish application.

Step 3: Apply Base Coat and Polish: Your nails are now ready for polish. Just like they do in the salon, start with a good base coat which acts like double sided sticky tape to anchor polish and help it last longer. Then apply 2 coats of your favorite color. Can’t pick between two colors? Paint your ring or pinky nail in a different shade!

Step 4: Create a DIY Decal: To create a Heart nail decal, all you need is Saran Wrap or a plastic bag and your favorite shade of polish. Using the pointed end of the Velvet Touch Nail Tool, make dots side by side on the plastic. Connect the two dots by dragging a V in between them creating a heart. Let dry until tacky and apply a layer of clear topcoat over the heart.  Let fully dry, then use the Pro Performance Slant Tweezers to lift the decal off the plastic and apply to the nail. Seriously easy, right?!

Step 5: Clean Up Edges & Let Nail Dry: If you hit any bumps along the way here is a tip that makes clean up easy and precise. Wrap the pointed end of the Nail Tool with a small bit of cotton and dip into acetone. Gently rub it over any “accidents” to remove any excess polish around the nail. Then apply topcoat and let your nails dry an additional five minutes.

Ice Pedicure

Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of reasons to show off your pedicured toes this winter. Holiday parties (even virtual ones) often include open-toed shoes. And even if you don’t have an event to attend, well-pedicured feet look great peeking out of a cozy blanket when snuggling by a cozy fire.

Love this cool winter look we call “Ice”? You can create this look at home with just a few craft store items and Japonesque beauty tools.

Get the look!

Before polishing toes, it’s important to get them polish ready. First trim nails. With toenails, they should be kept short. Cut nails straight across to prevent ingrown toenails using a sharp salon quality tool like the Pro Performance Toenail Clipper. If you have thicker toenails try the Nipper in the Velvet Touch Pedicure Essential Duo. It’s crafted with ultra-sharp blades and heavy gage stainless steel.

Next, push back and clean the cuticle area. Clean cuticles will help polish apply smoother and last longer. The Nail Tool in the Velvet Touch Pedicure Essential Duo features a curved edge and grooved surface to carefully push back cuticles and scrape away excess skin for a smooth clean surface. Then remove excess cuticle with a super sharp cuticle nipper like our Pro Performance Cuticle Nipper. Take care not to cut living skin — that’s your barrier to preventing infection.

Beautiful toes aren’t complete without soft feet. Smooth and soften even the toughest callouses with the Velvet Touch Foot Smoother. The rasp side removes callous while the pumice side smooths and softens. Start by gently gliding the rasp surface back and forth across callused areas of the wet feet. Smooth with the pumice side.

Once feet are perfectly pampered it’s time for polish. For this look you’ll need a pure white polish as well as foil and foil adhesive which can be picked up at your local craft store.

1) Wash feet with soap and water to remove any dust. Moisturize feet with lotion, avoiding nails. Cleanse nails with Isopropyl alcohol to remove contaminants and dehydrate the nail bed to help ensure maximum adhesion of polish.

2) Apply Base Coat which acts like double sided sticky tape anchoring nail color to the nail. Then apply white Polish and cap the tip of each nail with color after your first coat to help color last longer and prevent peeling at the tip. Then apply your second coat. A Flawless Manicure

A Flawless Manicure

The secret to long lasting nail color is a flawless manicure starting with nail prep. To ensure your nail polish lasts, use the right tools and follow these simple steps.

Japonesque Flawless Manicure Step 1 Clean and Trim nails

CLEAN & TRIM

  1. Remove existing polish and wash hands with soap and water. Use a soft nail brush to scrub the surface and underside of the nail to thoroughly clean nails.
  2. Trim nails to the desired length with the JAPONESQUE® Pro Performance Nail Clipper.

Tip:  Avoid soaking fingernails in water. Fingernails are thin and easily absorb water, making them soft and pliable, which can cause rips or tears.

Japonesque Flawless Manicure Step 2 Shape nails

SHAPE

  1. Smooth and shape the nail with the JAPONESQUE® Glamour Salon Board.

Tip:  Never file the surface of the nails which will make nails thinner and more likely to break and tear. If you have dips or ridges, use a ridge filler.

Japonesque Flawless Manicure Step 3 Care for cuticles

CARE FOR CUTICLES

  1. Apply a cuticle softening cream or gel to each nail.
  2. Use the flat side of the Velvet Touch Nail Tool to push back cuticles.
  3. Clean under each nail with the pointed side of the JAPONESQUE® Nail Tool.
Japonesque Flawless Manicure Step 4 Clean cuticles

CLEAN CUTICLES

  1. Gently remove any hangnails or excess skin around cuticles with the Pro Performance Cuticle Nipper.

Tip:  Meticulously cleaning the cuticle area helps prevent polish from peeling or lifting. Never cut the actual cuticle, which is living skin and can become infected if cut.

Japonesque Flawless Manicure Step 5 Apply polish

POLISH

  1. Wash hands with soap and water to remove any dust. Cleanse nails with Isopropyl alcohol to remove contaminants and dehydrate the nail bed to help ensure maximum adhesion of polish.
  2. Apply nail color. Always start with a Base Coat which acts like double sided sticky tape anchoring nail color to the nail. Always end with a Top Coat which acts like a hard shield protecting color from dents and scratches.

Tip:  Cap the tip of each nail with color after your first coat to help color last longer and prevent peeling at the tip. Then apply your second coat.

When applying polish, leave a clean margin around cuticles to prevent lifting and peeling.
