The Look
Galentine’s day is February 13th and it’s all about celebrating the women in your life – single or not. And while it is not yet a national holiday, it’s still a great excuse to get with your girls, sip wine and do your nails. To further inspire you, we’ve created this look that is seriously easy to create at home. All you need is your favorite polish and a few Japonesque nail tools. Not yet ready to connect in person? Let's get started!
Step 1: Clip & Remove Cuticles: To get a great manicure at home, prep is key. Do as the pros do and spend more time prepping your nails than you do polishing them. This will give your manicure longevity. Use the Pro Performance Nail Clipper to clip nails to desired length and shape. Next, add a drop of cuticle remover to each nail base and use the Velvet Touch Nail Tool to push back cuticles. Trim away any uneven cuticles with the Velvet Touch Manicure Nipper.
Step 2: File & Buff: File nails gently with an Essential Emery Board to smooth and shape the free edge of the nail. Move in one direction. If you have thin nails, try holding the emery board flush to your nail and tilt it slightly towards you. File just underneath the nail, which will help protect against over-filing. Next, buff the top of each nail lightly with the Essential 4-Way Nail Buffer to create a smooth surface. Buffing will help get rid of ridges and ensure even nail polish application.
Step 3: Apply Base Coat and Polish: Your nails are now ready for polish. Just like they do in the salon, start with a good base coat which acts like double sided sticky tape to anchor polish and help it last longer. Then apply 2 coats of your favorite color. Can’t pick between two colors? Paint your ring or pinky nail in a different shade!
Step 4: Create a DIY Decal: To create a Heart nail decal, all you need is Saran Wrap or a plastic bag and your favorite shade of polish. Using the pointed end of the Velvet Touch Nail Tool, make dots side by side on the plastic. Connect the two dots by dragging a V in between them creating a heart. Let dry until tacky and apply a layer of clear topcoat over the heart. Let fully dry, then use the Pro Performance Slant Tweezers to lift the decal off the plastic and apply to the nail. Seriously easy, right?!
Step 5: Clean Up Edges & Let Nail Dry: If you hit any bumps along the way here is a tip that makes clean up easy and precise. Wrap the pointed end of the Nail Tool with a small bit of cotton and dip into acetone. Gently rub it over any “accidents” to remove any excess polish around the nail. Then apply topcoat and let your nails dry an additional five minutes.
